Mattel Intellivision Keyboard Component

keyboardcomponentThe Intellivision Keyboard Component may be the rarest Intellivision-related item produced by Mattel. Originally planned to supplement the Intellivision Master Component, the Keyboard Component proved too costly and too prone to failure to produce on a mass scale. It is estimated that only 4,000 or so units were manufactured, and many of these were returned to Mattel as faulty. Thus it is unknown how many of these are still in circulation, and only a small number of them have surfaced in the hands of collectors.

As of the writing of this page, this March 2013 listing on eBay is the most recent appearance of the Intellivision Keyboard Component on eBay. This example is in working condition, making it even rarer. The seller set the price at $3,200, and one bidder took him/her up on it.
